VIDEO: Donald Trump Promises that the U.S. & India will be Best Friends

Just before the election in October, Trump said something remarkable.  He promised a large group of Indian-Americans at a Republican Hindu Coalition concert in New Jersey that the United States and India are “going to be best friends.”  He even said “I am a big fan of Hindu and I am a big fan of India” during this speech and called Narendra Modi a great man, all after lighting a traditional Hindu “diva” lamp.

We shall soon find out if the promise comes true.

You can find the full speech, the diva lighting, and the introduction by RHC chairman Shalabh Kumar, below:

  1. I certainly hope that the US and India will be best friends under Trump, but I’m not optimistic. What many of my Indian friends fail to realize is that friendship has to be a two-way street – it’s not just a matter of the US doing things that benefit India, it’s also a matter of India doing things that benefit the US, and that is where things are found wanting. Even after the US has provided India with significant amounts of weaponry and granted India its long sought designation as a “major defense partner”, India continues to provide only the most minimal degree of cooperation with US Government efforts to recover the remains of its military personnel from India’s territory. These soldiers’ families (which include my own) have vainly sought some sort of commitment from the Modi Government that it will never (except under conditions of full-scale hostilities in the vicinity of US crash sites) reimpose the unjustified and illegal moratorium on remains recoveries instituted by the previous UPA regime. Friendship has to work both ways, and so far, I don’t see much at all in the way or reciprocation from the Indian Government.
